Kids nowadays!

Whenever my cousin came to visit, the first thing they will look for is IPAD!

What have technology done to the kids?

I often wonder what will happened if IPAD wasn't around, just like the old days.

Most probably my two little cousins will be out playing football now.

Technology has the good and bad side, the good one is they're providing alot of info for better knowledge, the bad side is we're taking for granted the little time we have to enjoy life.

All we need to do is manage the little ones so that they're not addicted or overdose of technology.

The story of my (work) life

I started working at PETRONAS ICT Sdn Bhd in 2012, about 2 years ago. I was placed in SAS (Solution Application Support) department.  To introduce, PETRONAS ICT Sdn Bhd (fomerly known as iPerintis Sdn Bhd) was established in the year 2000 and to date, the company has employed over 1,000 people, with offices in 17 locations in Malaysia and presence in 16 international projects.As a 100%-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, PETRONAS ICT Sdn Bhd aligned the initiatives with the PETRONAS’ business priorities and position the company as its internal ICT arm. AWS (Alternative Workstation)

Last 2 months, on 1st of January to be precised; our company is having a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) activity. As per Wikipedia; it identifies an organization's exposure to internal and external threats and synthesizes hard and soft assets to provide effective prevention and recovery for the organization, while maintaining competitive advantage and value system integrity. Every team must have at least 3 people present in our disaster recovery place in Bangi. This time around, it's my turn. I gained a lot of knowledge with this experience.

The process of BCP is whenever we received a phone call from the focal person, we need to head down to Bangi promptly to continue business as usual. Some of my colleagues will be working from home if any disaster strikes.

Cloud Computing

In definition, cloud computing is when there're several remote servers which manage to store and process data via the internet. In Petronas ICT Sdn Bhd, the cloud computing used is called WEBS. All staff are able to login to WEBS by using outlook ID and password.

The advantages of using WEBS is staff can share the documentations related via the internet. Therefore, staff are able  to grab the info without hassle.

Staff just need to publish their document without making it private. If it is private, only the personnel itself can have a look at the documentation.
